I've used the Lumiquest Softbox for a couple of years and one of the things
I like about it is that for portraits of people who are near a wall (not
good composition, but you don't always get deep rooms!), the softbox also
diffuses the light and thereby reduces those ugly shadows behind them. I
tend to give mine more credit that just eating battery power, although my
opinions is pretty much subjective.
