Hi Tom,
I too used this camera at a graduation and found the same as you
regarding the motor noise. It was so quiet that I tried to
continue shooting while the camera was rewinding! I was on the
verge of going nuts when neither AF activation or FE lock would
respond to the button presses. It wasn't until I looked down to
the LCD and found the active rewind indicator that I realized
that I was at the end of the roll.
