Just to add one more thought to this age-old thread:  there is the
question of *familiarity" with whatever you're using.  The other day I
handed my camera mid-roll to another person so that I could be in some
pictures.  This guy is an experienced photographer,  When I got the
roll back, the shots he took were significantly "inferior" to the rest
of the roll.  The gear was good, the photographer was good.  He just
didn't know the equipment.

You should hear this discussion in music circles!
