Actually, I still have a 5.25 inch floppy drive. And
there are services that will copy from almost any
obsolete format you can imagine (even 8" floppies)
onto current formats.

More to the point, any important data that I had on 5"
floppies I could copy off onto 3.5" disks during a
period of overlap that lasted several years. If, 5
years from now, CDs have been replaced with writeable
DVDs, I'll have plenty of overlap to copy my CDs. And
if writeable crystal lattice optical storage replaces
that, they'll be plenty of opportunity for me to
migrate.

If you, or I, fail to do that, then shame on us.

Even so, I have to way to print glass negatives, or
even 4x5 film negs, without going to an outside
service bureau, either. (Actually, to be honest, I
have no way to print ANY neg without going to an
outside service bureau, having given up my wet
darkroom.) So I'm not sure it's all that much
different if I have to take a neg to a pro shop to get
a print made, or send my Bernouli disk to a pro
service bureau to get the file copied onto something
newer.
