Sure. Just like you can copy a Bernouli (sp?) Drive you made 15 years ago,
or a 5-1/2" floppy from your now AWOL "A" drive.
15 years from now I expect none of will be able to do anything with a CD
from 2000-2001 except skim it across the lawn.

The big difference between CD and floppy or Bernoulli is that CD has the backing of
the multi-billion dollar record industry (you can still get cassette tapes and
records). Every new music format (DVD-Audio, SACD, HDCD), is backwards compatible
with CD. Remember that CD is actually older than Bernoulli (or at least as old as),
but is still around and kicking. Because so many CDs are out there, I think most new
formats will attempt to be compatible with them, which means they should be compatible
with CD-R as well.
Your reasoning is why I wouldn't trust Zip disks or any other similar proprietary
technology, but I would trust CD-R.
