I went travelling recently, and took with me a 24mm and a 50mm macro (Sigma
EX) lens. I took some close-up shots, especially while hiking in the
mountains, so the macro lens was useful. So was the wide-angle, especially
in cities. But I could have used a lens that was a little longer. I started
wondering whether there was a single lens that would be convenient for
travel, and the one that came to mind was the 28-70 L. The advantages would be:

- superb optical quality
- zoom would be convenient for travel
- 2x converter would make it an f/5.6 short telephoto lens
- macro attachment (diopters) would give me close-up possibiliites

The biggest disadvantage would have been the weight, but I think it would
have been OK.

Is anyone else using the 28-70 L with a 2x converter? How about diopters?

Gerry
