I didn't think about using them together as well. But at a portrait
shooting some time ago, I just carried 3 lenses. 28-70L, 85/1.8,
200/2.8. I really thought this should be enough, but added the 1.4x
to my bag for use with the 85/1.8, in case I would need something
in between 85 and 200. Then out of a sudden we had the idea to do
some action shots, the model running and I tried to pan, using a
slow shutter speed of about 1/15 to 1/30 second. I thought the zoom
would be handy, but it was just a little too short. Then I thought
about the converter and the resulting focal length and zoom range
was just fine. The pics turned out quite nicely, although at least
60% were blurred due to my not so perfect panning technique.
Obviously, you can't judge the real sharpness of the combo from that
pics, because there is always a little rest of motion blur, sometimes
more, sometimes less.

Anyway, I tried some "normal" pics with the combo as well, and the
sharpness is ok for me. I don't think I will use that combo very
often, because you really don't get all that much, not even 100mm
at the long end.
