A future compromise is possible. If you buy a gray market EF 85 f/1.8 from
a reputable vendor, they way I did last fall, you'll save enough money to
also buy the EF 50 f/1.8. And yes, I know that wasn't the 50mm you asked
about, but optically it's very, very good. The EF 85 is very good and has a
beautiful feel, even including the manual focus. Just a thought.
