The date-back [*] issue can be cured easily, by taping some
120/220-format backing paper to the pressure plate.
However: with that solution you cut down all back-reflection from
the pressure plate, back onto the film ....and this back-reflection
is one of the reasons you get such nice halo's (glow around
highlights (applies only to Kodak HIE btw)).
And of course, the same back-reflection is the very reason these
date/databacks cause problems in the first place: they reflect less
at the cut-out openings, which creates shadows on the final print.
So instead, you might want to tape a piece of aluminium foil....:))
(on the other hand, there are a few cameras without pressure plate
completely, like all swing-lens panorama cameras....with the added
problem that *if* you mount an artificial pressure plate there
(curved piece of aluminium foil), you probably also cause reflections
to the sides, where the take-up spool with exposed film sits on one
side, and a piece of unexposed film on the other side....the cure
might be worse than the problem....
[*] no such thing as a datA-back with current EOS'es, and I consider
the electronic-memory on the EOS-1v as inferior to any
inbetween-frame-printing of exposure data!)
And to anyone interested in more IR discussion in general, please
s_ubscribe to the Infrared Photography Mailinglist, also hosted on
this server (actually predating the move of the EOS list by 4
years....in about a month, the IR-list will be 5 years old....:))
