Here's my take on Julian's apparent dislike for the 630:

a) Never had a problem with either my 630 or RT - 5 year lifespan must be 5
dog years.
b) Never a problem in a properly maintained camera
c) Don't need a GR-20 - have a PC connector put in at camera shop
d) I dislike IS lenses so this is not an issue for me
e) Despite lots of "information" about it, my off shoe cord-2 works fine
f) Proper maintenance and checkups prevent this sort of thing
g) Not a real problem as there is a decal on my cameras with all the codes
listed
h) I wouldn't own a camera with a pop up flash - too weak
i) This may just be a personal thing but I don't use EOS cameras in low light
j) You've stumped me on this one - I've never had any problems with AF on
these bodies
k) I take care of my cameras and nothing is EVER missing from them

So, other than that, I believe the 630 an RT to be the last of the robust
EOS bodies. I realize that everyone can have a different take on "things"
but if we were to list the shortcomings of the A2, it would be a lot longer
than the one above. Things can go wrong with any camera, the 630
included. I've had at least one 630 and one RT since their introductions
and have not experienced any of the "problems" mentioned by Julian. My
biggest complaint was lack of a PC connection which I solved as noted in
(c) above.
