I have three EOS 630s, all of which I bought secondhand on eBay. I've had
them all for about 3 years. They have been completely reliable. To address
some of the potential problems raised by others, I've had no problems with
the LCD display (though I did have to have one replaced on one of the 650s
that I owned a few years ago, and the 650 is a very similar camera). The
shutters work fine. The autofocus is reliable. It's true that autofocus is
faster on newer models, but I find it fast enough for everything except
rapid subjects like birds in flight. I use my 630s with IS lenses (75-300
and 100-400), and I haven't had any excessive shaking. My off-camera flash
setup works well, and the 380EX flash has a red auto-focus assist beam for
working in low light.
I agree that it's a good idea to use the GR-20 grip, so that you can attach
a remote release (Remote Switch 60 T3).
The only reasons why I also have an EOS 3 are that the 630 does not have
mirror lock (this was important to me for macro photography with the 180mm
macro lens, but it may not be important to you), and that, with the 630,
you lose autofocus when using the Canon 1.4 teleconverter with the 100-400
IS lens.
