It's the distance between the view finder optics and your eye, better eye
relief is defined as when you can be further away from the view finder and
can still see the full picture.

For eyeglass wearers the "better" performance allows the full image to be
seen even with the added space incurred by the glasses.

It's even more important for firearm shooters using a scope, the recoil can
result in a black eye if the eye relief is poor and the shooters moves too
close to get a better view.
