First of all, are you judging from slides or negs/prints? Then, did you use 
evaluative or spot metering? Personally, I'd load my favorite slide film,
then go shooting, taking spot metered shots using a gray card and also some
shots of not overly contrasty scenes with evaluative. After that, you should
have all you need to decide if the metering is ok or not. Additionally, you
can try to compare spot meter readings with a external spot meter and maybe 
your evaluative meter reading with an incident reading (but this can be tricky).
