Actually, Keith, it's pretty fast, and for most wide angle work, not
an issue at all. I'd say that it traverses its entire focusing range
in about the time it takes to say "twenty-forty." True it doesn't have
that "instantaneous" feel that USM has, and it is noisier.  The noise
doesn't really bother me, but it might some.    One of the reviews
criticised the lens for having a focusing ring feel that was too
loose, and I tend to agree, they could have damped it more in MF mode.
