No wonder Canon is giving $100 rebates for a $700 L lens. I just bought
one from B&H and the datecode was November, 1999 (UN1101)! That's
eighteen months ago. This is actually my second one. I returned my
first one after it arrived last week because of a big hair sitting on an
internal element. That one was several months older. The Canon Museum
Site says the lens was introduced in Sept., 99.
Either Canon manufactured way more than they could sell or no one wants
it. If a pro equipment dealer like B&H is selling 18 month old
inventory, imagine how slow they are moving!
