Notice that there are very few fixed aperture zoom lenses in the
"consumer" realm. At least in autofocus. I used to have FD mount zoom
lenses that had constant apertures, but not anymore. Just speculation,
but it would seem the challenge of combining autofocus, lens speed, and
constant aperture is an expensive one to meet. There are, however,
Sigma and Tamron lenses available that are relatively fast and have
constant apertures, so maybe I'm wrong. For instance the Sigma 24-70
f2.8 EX that Cameraworld sells for $400.
