If the camera has to 'hunt' for a subject it lets the
lens focus through its total focus range. The bigger
this range is the longer the 'hunting'/focusing takes.
So if you already know that your subject will be at
least 3m from you limiting the focusing range can be
quite helpful. Now the range from 1.5-3 and 3-infinity
seems to be quite unequal. But if you manually zoom
from 1.5 to 3 meters and from 3 meters to infinity you
will recognize that both require about the same amount
of turning of the focusing ring. So limiting the range
to 3-infinity can almost double the speed of hunting.
