Hi Jansen, I assume that AI focus is the same as One-Shot. I only use this
mode for constantly static subjects as it locks the focus when acquired
until you release the shutter and partially press it again. If there is any
chance of subject movement I use AI Servo so that I can track movement
without releasing the shutter button. It works for me. I don't see why Al
Servo should be better when used with the centre focus point, but this is
probably the best way to go when you have a lot of periphial distractions as
you described. The only time I would think that One Shot would be better at
a football match would be when shooting candids of the bench, spectator
shots, wide shots etc. I shoot mainly motorsports though, not much ball
sport - others will know more.
