It I read the following posting correctly,  it appears that
not all macro lenses are flat-field

and - of course - not all flat-field lenses (e.g.  enlarger
lenses) are macros.

No,  the better performance results from the design
optimized for 1:1 magnification,  instead of 1:20 for non-
macro lenses.   Some macros don't work well at low
magnifications (infinity focus) for the same reason.

Don't confuse macro lenses with standard lenses that have a
"macro" setting.  This isn't real macro (at 1:1),  but
usually just close-up (around 1:4 to 1:2).
