Hi Mat, Thanks for the reply, but I now have a problem. As the list was down
I rang a contact at Canon CPS technical to get an answer. His reply was an
emphatic no - the CP will not affect AF performance. He stated that it is
not comparable to fitting a TC which slows AF down and is not a case of
"less light" per se. The guy knows me and my work and I've dealt with him
before so I went ahead and ordered the filter. I haven't received or payed
for it yet though.
How sure are you of your information?
Your comments on the moulded windscreens are interesting and I hadn't
considered that aspect. Shutter speeds/blur are not a problem.

Its not that a TC or less light slows down AF, its dim light that slows down
AF. What I mean is that if you have a filter or TC in sunlight the AF will
operate the same. To prove it, if you are out in the sun check your AF then
put a 1.4x on the same lens and check again. There should be no difference.
Now indoors is another story. The light may be dimmer indoors in which case
you will have less chance to lock onto your subject immediately and the lens
may hunt a bit more than usual.
