Hi Keith, No, the reduction in AF performance with the 1.4x is minimal. I
tend to use this combo (300/2.8 + 1.4x) most commonly for my trackside work
and only use the 2x when I have to, although this also depends on which body
is used. The 1v will handle the 600mm combo well while the 3 struggles. Not
really surprising.
Please note that this is using the gear in difficult conditions, like bikes
travelling well over 100kph and erratically across the field of vision. For
flat pans or applications away from the track I can't fault the AF
performance of either body with the 600mm combo.
