My apologies. I stand corrected. I have just tried it and the file size
remained the same.

I cannot remember where I first read this, but I accepted it as a fact
without checking it.

It is of course possible to change the compression ratio of a JPEG,
depending on the editing program, but I still wouldn't save any image as a
JPG file where quality is concerned. It rather defeats the object of buying
a multi million pixel camera after all. Look at all the people on this list
who are still awaiting a 36 x 24 mm chip.

There are other formats besides JPG, although admittedly they don't compress
anywhere near as small. But they are not lossy, either. JPG is fine for
small images on the Web.
