I ranged between 10 yards at the closest to 40 yards at the furthest and was
using a EF 100-400 IS. I've read somewhere that the 100-400 may underexpose
by as much as 1/3, but I still think the main problem was me setting the
overall compensation to -1. Next time, I'll bracket and take better notes.
Now let me see, if I braket the main exposure and braket the flash, then
I'll have 9 possibilities for every photo. If I can only get the gorillas
to hold still for all those shots. Hmmm
