With the EOS system, no matter what sort of lens, the aperture blades are
wide open until you're actually shooting (unless you activate D-o-F Preview).
With a variable aperture zoom, set to it's widest aperture, the aperture
blades remain wide open when you zoom from min to max. It's the
mathematical ratio that changes, not the physical blades.
