----> The way I read this is that you are assuming that once
the class is finished he will pitch everything and buy a kayak or
something.

What if..... He decides to keep the Elan II and the
380-EX and actually learn how to use the combo?-------------

Hopefully the fellow will continue in photography, and he
will buy some great lenses, instead of the 28-80 and 75-300 pair!
Then there is the wonderful 20 dollar wireless remote, a *good*
tripod instead of the Velbon down at Transister City (there's a
hundred bucks right there) etc. etc. I think the Canon flashes
are good value for the money but for a self-described beginner
there are so many other things that might be higher on the list.
I'm not knocking the Canon, just putting it a little further down
on the 'gotta have' list..A couple of the small slave units,
magazines and books, a good gadget bag, film other than Kodak
*.Max, filters and hoods, (polarizing filter) some kind of
close-up equipment, -everybody has their own favorite 'stuff'.
