We have a philosophical difference here it appears.
I agree with most of what you wrote, "great lenses" and "a good
tripod". Where we differ is that when it is time for me to buy
something I look to the long run. I think of what use something will be
and what value it will have as time goes on. The EOS flash falls into
the category of "I can use it manually now and learn it's capabilities
when I am ready. A less expensive flash might cost me less now, but
it's value to me will certainly decrease in time as I want the features
the more expensive unit has."
Differences like these make the world an interesting place now and then.
