hi there,
the central cross type sensor in the eos 3 consists of one horizontal
sensor with "normal" accuracy which operates with lenses down to f8,
plus
a vertical sensor with "high" accuracy which operates only with
lenses of f4 or faster.
The high accuracy sensor is said to focus within 1/3 of the accuracy
of normal Canon AF sensors. So you could say it is 3 times more accurate,
but only if the lens is not slower than f4 and there is horizontal structure
visible in the subject.
I've no idea if the higher accuracy is visible on actual photos, though...
Another thing I noticed is that when you switch AF off to focus
manually, the in focus indicator is much more tolerant to distance
changes than with AF switched on.
Does anybody have an idea why this is so??
br/Stefan.
