I have had a 283 since they were first introduced waaaaaaaaaaaaay back when.
It has been great. (I bought a second for multiple flash setups) So great,
in fact, that even thought Vivitar has tried to eliminate it the demand has
been great enough that Vivitar decided that since it keeps selling they will
keep making it.

When I first entered the EOS arena I used the 283 on my A2e. Never had a
problem with trigger voltages or anything. Since my pre-EOS stuff was Olympus
I never thought about things like trigger voltages. My wife bought me a 540EZ
and I started using it instead of the 283. Was I lucky or can my EOS-5, it
was converted from the A2e, handle the 283. I don't know.

There was a way of measuring trigger voltage and what an EOS body can handle
without braking posted quite some time ago. Maybe someone can post it if they
remember.

Everybody has a photographic memory. Some just don't have any film.
