Hello Snorre,

I'm really pleased that you and others on this list have found equipment
that you like and does the job for you but why is so necessary to criticize
the equipment choice of others. I have been using my Leica M's for at least
the last ten years of travel and work all over Asia. They have survived
motorcycle trips across Tibet, they have been as far as the base camp on
Mount Everest, bounced around in a 4x4 during many trips across Nepal, China
and Inner Mongolia and have spent a good many years in tropical climates all
without problem. A few months ago I bought an EOS1v - 50 1.4 & 70-200 2.8
because this setup was better suited for some tasks than my Leica. I don't
feel the need to start bashing Leica now just because I bought a Canon. I
have also been on the Leica list for a good many years and there are all
types of folks there just like. Some of them I read every word they say
carefully and others I just delete without bothering to read their messages.
I have also been fortunate enough to meet up with a lot of the LUG folks in
person in Singapore, Katmandu, London and Canada and had great time with
them and most of them were just normal folks. Sometimes this brand loyalty,
list loyalty thing just gets a bit too much.

Cheers,

Ian

Ah yes, the Leica-philes... They are a breed of their own. I don't quite
understand why anyone would buy a Leica M6 with a 50/2 when, for the same
price (atleast here in Norway), you can get a 1v with a 50/1.4 (or like me,
a 3 with three GOOD s/h lenses)...

The price of Leica is:
Logo: 70%
Actual gear: 30%

The Leicas are good, but their owners tend to give it god-like qualities
that aren't there...

If I want a compact, I'll use my IXUS L-1.
If I want quality, I'll use my EOS 3.
If I want even more quality, I'll use my Yashica MAT 124G.
