Hi Gary,
I recently bought a new 70-200mm 2.8L without the IS. I knew that the IS
version was hitting the streets at the time I was about to purchase. I've
been taking some pictures using handholding at bright light conditions and
IS seems to be a moot point for this particular lens.
Tonight I've shot off a couple of rolls at dim interior light and will get
the prints done tomorrow. I'll tell you whether IS will make any difference
or not. I suspect that it would come into play when the light is dim and
you are handholding. However, I couldn't justify the additional cost of the
IS, which amounted to the cost of a new EOS30 body (Elan7E).
Regards,
Lawrance

Since a thread has come back to the new 70-200 IS, I have a question about
the 'old' one. That is...will it now be discontinued? Or, will you have a
choice (ala the 75-300 f/4-5.6), to IS or not to IS?
