Yes. The lab I use varies a lot. They always give me a leader, but they're
doing *something* that often causes the ID imprint to be lost. Occasionally
the leader is cut somewhat diagonally, while obviously the first transparency
isn't, which is pretty strong evidence that a piece is missing! In the last
batch I had processed, 5 rolls were missing the ID, 13 rolls has the ID on the
leader, and 2 rolls came back with the ID mounted as frame 1, which is annoying
because that means the numbers stored in the technical back do not match those
on the slides. I've tried talking to them but they insist they're giving me
the whole leader. They've gotten better with time, for whatever reason - a
couple of years ago the ratio of slides with/without ID would have been
inverted. At this point, I usually get a high enough fraction of rolls back
with IDs to be able to piece everything together in sequence pretty easily.
I'm hesitant to shop around because other than this problem I have a good
relationship with this lab.

I store mine in a high-density format that isn't optimal from an organizational
standpoint, but does allow me to fit 10000 slides into a fire safe...
