My 28-135 is my American Express lens, I never leave home without it.
Really, no matter what other lenses I have with me that day, that lens
is in the bag or on my camera. I think the IS makes up for its not
going beyond 28mm or 135mm. I have a 17-35 Sigma, if I think I'll be
somewhere that I need wider than 28, which is rare, but has happened,
then that one goes with me. If I need more reach, then I carry the
100-400 IS, or if I don't want to carry that monster, I steal my wife's
100-300. BTW, the 28-135, my A2 and the 50mm 1.8 all fit neatly into my
Tamrac 519 ready bag/holster. That way, I have decent reach and decent
speed available.
