Ray,

The 1D has a firewire port. The 1v has a USB port. These are two
completely different interfaces for which you need to different ports.
Since quite a while almost all computers have 2 USB ports standard.
Firewire is less common but can be found standard on some desktops and
laptops (Sony). Firewire is also called IEEE1394 (the number given by
the standard) or iLink(Sony). Mac might have another name.
