Hey Dean, The EF 85 1.8USM and EF 100 2USM are twin sisters but one is a little bigger. All of the EF 85 1.8 and EF 100 2 lenses I've used and played with including my own EF 85 1.8USM are almost silent so if you are getting any real noise I'd get it checked out before something falls off inside and makes a mess.
