Have it for 2 years and love it. Very sharp and the 105mm focal length is
more used to me than say a 90mm as in the Tamron.
The savings over the Canon was several hundred dollars so it was a no
brainer. Whether you pick the Tamron, Sigma EX, or Canon macro you cannot
go wrong.
PROS: The Sigma EX has a very solid build (metal not plastic), useful manual
focus changeover (for me at least) and a deep set front element which helps
eliminate ghosting or flare. Very sharp optically, equaly to Canon's or
Tamron's best. Best price of the three.
CONS: Hood is a screw in type and a pain to use. I avoid using it except
when I have to such as when I use filters.
AF when employed can be a bit noisy and at times slow especially if
you are use to Canon's USM focusing.
NOTE: Most if the time if you are doing macro work you will want to use
manual focusing for critical focusing. AF is nice but when on a tripod MF is
best. What I am saying is that speed in AF is not really necessary unless
you use the lens as a normal lens most of the time, in which case why buy a
macro?
