Also from what I gather about macro lenses, sharpness and bokeh are more important then AF speed since these lenses are usually used Manual focus, since you need to decide where to place the focus ppoint.
Frankly I have the Vivitar 100mm, using it mostly at half size. The af sucks big time, but then you do not use this for portraiture, and if you do, i do not see how you need very fast AF anyway. http://www.geocities.com/pdxswing/CrystalSprings/ (some macro's with Vivitar, I am just a beginner in this area) Also, for portrait you can use a soft fx1,2 or 3. At Soft FX filter #3 gets pretty dreamy beginning 100. I think a Soft/FX #2 at 100mm should compensate for these very sharp lenses.
