Hi Alex,

I believe that the 28/1.8 II is not compatible with the EOS 30/33 / Elan 7/7e and
requires a chip upgrade from Sigma.

If you own an earlier EOS camera, this is not a problem and the lens may be a good
choice. Having previously owned one, I can say they're not the most robust of lenses
(typical of many of Sigmas pre-EX range), although it's be a great choice for
occasional use and it was quite good optically.

The 28/1.8 EX is as you mentioned a much larger lens, but is also much better built,
albeit at a higher price.

Another pair of lenses to consider from Sigma are the 24/f1.8 and the 20/f1.8. They
sound like a great pair of high speed wide lenses. Maybe one of these would
complement your 24-85 even better than the 28/f1.8 would.

Regards
Gary
