Apologies for going o/t. Could someone direct me to a site/list discussing long term storage of scans? I am using a 4000 dpi scanner and would like to get around the need to rescan/recrop images over and over depending on the resolution required for each application. A full 35mm frame yields a 210MB file in uncompressed TIF. This is a mere 3 images per CD-R. Although it provides maximum flexibility, with no need to rescan, it is not practical for mass storage either. I am not enthusiastic about jpeg compression. I know nothing about tiff LZW compression. In respect to list members not interested, replies should be off-list I guess. There must be a forum somewhere to discuss slide/neg scanning issues. General flat bed sort of scanning forums are not overly concerned with or knowledgeable about these things.
