TIFF LZW compression is loss less compression. Meaning that you do not lose
any information in the picture, compared to JPEG, which uses lossy
compression algorithm. Therefore, LZW compression is not as effective as
JPEG, but does not lose information.
Regarding the storage, I have no idea. Maybe rewritable DVD, but they are
somewhat expensive. If you find out about film-scanning mailing list, please
