 TTL and A-TTL flash are based around a flash sensor that records light
reflecting off the surface of the film. D30s and 1Ds don't have film and
Canon didn't design a digital approximation of such a sensor, so they only
work with E-TTL. Only EX series EOS system flashes are E-TTL compatible.
