Try using the FEL (Flash Exposure Lock) button. Frame the pic so that
the centre focusing point is on the subjects face, press the FEL button to
fire a pre-flash. This sets the flash exposure for the skin tone. Now
recompose the picture and shoot as normal. 9 times out of 10 the flash
exposure will be perfect, regardless of what the subject is wearing.
