In Japan they had ver I, ver. II, and ver. III. They told me that the later versions were optically the same only the AF speed software had been changed. I thought it was just sales talk but all the documents that came with the lens were clearly marked EF300F2.8L USM verIII. I was surprised. I posted this on the EOS list and no one had a clue what I was referring to. I dont think anyone believed me at the time. Strange but true, there are three non IS 300F2.8 versions!
