The worst threat is fungi growing on your lens. The humididity gets into
everything, even the inside of the lenses where you can't clean.

I'm also off to Malaysia next week for 3 weeks. I'm bringing lots of
dessicant canisters that I bought from Porters a while back. I figure that
if I leave my camera and lens overnight in gallon ziplock bags with a
dessicant canisters, it should retard some of the growth of fungi on the
glass surfaces.

The canisters are "rechargeable" by sticking them in an oven and they have
an indicator button that changes color when they're "full". With 98%
humidity in Malaysia, that should only be about a day or two. :(

p.s. I also have some dessicant pouches from various food items, but a lot
of them contain a crushed white powder (not the solid salt crystals in the
canister) that might cause problems with Immigration if they leaked. The
spilled chemical looks too much like a certain controlled substance (or a
certain biotoxin causing problems in the u.s.).
