I agree completely. I think you just go out and shoot.

I live in Malaysia btw and humidity is a constant problem.
I just keep my gear in plastic boxes with lots of that dessicating stuff
that's recycled in a microwave. So far, no fungus on any lens yet... I've
tromped into tropical rainforest, had my gear (EOS50/30, 70-200 2.8 and
24-85) splashed with rainwater or if you're shooting during a major monsoon
season at a beach, strong winds with salt sprays and all... I just clean
them with a dry cloth everynight. A room with the AC on most of the time
helps as it lowers the humidity quite a bit.

Especially if it's for a limited duration... one or two trips definitely
won't hury imho. Living here forever probably will ;-D
