This happened to me with my EOS 3 during a rewind. I thought it was just
the battery, so I got a new battery. When I put a new battery in, I
expected the rewind to begin but nothing happened. After trying another
battery and still nothing happening, I pushed the mid-roll rewind button.
The film rewound and the camera started working again.

Have a great day!
