I own five "L" lenses; 14/2.8L. 24/1.4L, 35/1.4L, 20-35/2.8L and 70-200/2.8L as well as an 85/1.8. These were ALL purchased through ebay auctions. On only one lens, the 24/1.4, was there a problem regarding condition and the seller and I negotiated an acceptable solution. The simple fact is that you have to be willing to be patient, watch the going prices and examine the sellers feedback. Using proxy bidding is crap, it only creates a feeding/bidding frenzy at the end. I snipe if I feel the price and quality are right and walk away if prices get too high. I have a collection of MINT lenses that cost me about 80% of new.
