The difference is I have Heliopan filters for sale on my website and no 
other brands. :)  I'm actually surprised how many people don't know about 
Heliopan filters.  Now to answer your question, Hoya are made from decent 
Japanese glass but build is so-so.  B+W are made from superb Zeiss glass 
and built like tanks.  Heliopan are similar but come in slim mounts at no 
extra cost.  Hama and Canon I've never used.  Nikon would just be wrong to 
use.  Tiffen are supposed to be the worst of the big names.  Then you have 
different coatings, and I could go on all day.  The most important thing is 
buy a filter at least as good as your lens.
