Hi Gerry,

The spacer might be an FD system accessory that was carried over to the EOS
system, since I see the occasional Canon FD 35mm Tilt-Shift advertised with
and without a spacer.

At http://eosdoc.com Jeff Conrad suggested in his Tilt-shift lens manuals
that a booster/grip could be used in place of the Canon spacer. Or that
changing to a ball-head might also give sufficient clearance.

I think there might be yet another (undocumented) alternative. But you have
to cross over to the "dark side" and order a Nikon AH-5 Tripod Mounting
Spacer for 85mm f/2.8 Micro PC Lens. See:

For the asking price of $USD50, do you think that an accessory ball or 3-way
head might be better value? What kind of tripod are you using?
