Unless you're shooting for a newspaper, or something else that needs >short turnaround, or your film costs are very >significant, it's hard to justify digital right now. Couldn't agree more. Besides, the D30 is just as expensive as many L Lenses. I'd rather have an L lens on EOS RT than a cheaper lens on a D30. >Of course, once I go the digital route, I'll hang onto at least one of the film bodies I have now. Sales will drop and improvements in film cameras will be more and more rare and spaced in time. That's a bit what happened with medium format (not to talk about large format). From my point of view, it is not that bad. That means I'll be able to buy a top-of-the-range film SLR and be sure that it will have a much longer livespan than they do now. As far as re-sale value is concerned, if the EOS 1V were, for the sake or argument, the last of Canon's pro film camera's, I'm pretty sure it would still have a very good resale value in 10 years (or more) time since there would be no more development. Again, look at re-sale value of medium format cameras. And then we have very particular case of Leicas M, which is nothing but a nearly half-century old concept that as the best re-sale value in the market. Yes, I know they are "religion", a myth in photography which greatly inflates prices. Nevertheless it's interesting to see how much some people are willing to spend on an old and sometimes battered M3.
