Mayby I was not clear enough, but I didn't do this change yet, because I'm
happy for now with the cord as it is.
But I have been reading of some poeple that has done this and rememberd it
because you never know what you are going to do or want in the future.
BTW, I agree with you that small connectors would be better, and that the
best would be to have one in the hotshoe itself.

For your poblem: You can alwas buy a new cable (5 cables inside, with a
shield around them)  and experiment with that one. If you don't like the
results, then you can resolder the old one. What you would need ofcourse is
a smal solder-iron (for electronics), but then it should be easy to change.
If you never done this before: be beware not to make the contacts to hot,
because the plastic might melt.
And impedance problems can always occure, the more contacts, the higher the
change to it, so keep them clean. This is also the reason the length can't
be to long.

Mayby it is a good idee to look into this and see wich parts can be used and
where to get them.
